Grants
In the last year alone, the Israel Children's Cancer Foundation
has awarded five grants totaling $500,000. That money has gone
to fund cancer treatment at five of Israel's most prestigious
medical centers:
Hadassah University Hospital
in Jerusalem
Rambam Medical Center
in Haifa
Schneider Children's
Medical Center of Israel in Petach Tikva
Sheba Medical Center
in Tel Hashomer
Soroka University Medical
Center in Beersheba
Together, these medical institutions treat more than 90% of
all Israeli children with cancer. And every single penny of
these grants comes from the generosity of people like you. |
Grant
Making Process:
1. Grant applications are
mailed out to Israeli hospitals and medical centers that collectively
treat approximately 90% of all Israeli children with cancer.
They are encouraged to fill out these forms and mail them back
to our office in New York.
2. Upon receipt of these completed
applications, they are disseminated to the American members
of ICCF’s Medical Advisory Council, currently numbering
19 and representing the most prominent members of the pediatric
oncology and hematology community.
3. Upon receipt of these grant
applications, the Medical Advisory Council members carefully
review them and reply by using a special response form to indicate
their approval or rejection of each grant request and include
any and all comments that they have regarding same.
4. These replies are tallied
in the New York office and reviewed by the chairman of the Medical
Advisory Council, Dr. Michael B. Harris. If two-thirds of the
members approve the grant, a check covering the cost of the
grant is forwarded to the respective institution.
5. To monitor the grants in
Israel, we have appointed Dr. Arnold I. Freeman, vice chairman
of the Medical Advisory Council and a certified public accountant
who works directly with the chief financial officer of each
respective institution to certify that all grant monies are
being used for the intended purpose.
6. All grants are earmarked
to improve the level of clinical care for Israeli children afflicted
with the dreaded disease of cancer. |
